Mrs. Ekstrand invited a mystery reader to her classroom this past Friday, October 4th. To the students' surprise, the guest reader was Douglas 5th grader, Michael Milford. The students enjoyed their time with Michael, who did a great job of reading to them. Way to go, Michael! 🐯

Belleville Elks Lodge #481 invites your eligible Douglas School students to participate in the annual Elks Hoop Shoot contest which will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Downtown YMCA in Belleville.
The age brackets are as follows and are based on the contestants age as of April 1, 2025:
Boys and Girls Ages 8-9 (shooting four feet in front of the foul line) using 28.5 basketball.
Boys and Girls Ages 10-11 using 28.5 basketball.
Boys and Girls Ages 12-13. Boys use 29.5 basketball.
Each contestant will be required to shoot 25 shots. The student with the highest number of baskets made out of 25 shots will be declared the winner and will move on to the Elks District Hoop Shoot, which will take place on January 25, 2025 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Families interested in participating in this event and asked to report to the Downtown Belleville YMCA, 200 S. Illinois St., on November 16, 2024 at the following times:
9:00 am: Ages 8-9
10:00 am: Ages 10-11
11:00 am: Ages 12-13

West Jr High School is in need of a 5th Grade Girls Basketball Coach! The season runs from September 30th through December 5th. The position also comes with a paid stipend. Mrs Tyler brought in a group of caterpillar eggs that she and her class watched each hatch into caterpillars before later forming into a chrysalis and eventually emerging as Monarch Butterflies. They then invited our other students to come and observe as they released them into the wild. Needless to say, it was a great experience for everyone involved! 🐯




Patriot Day was such a great learning experience for 6th grade! All the students learned history today with such emotion.
Alex, Madison, and Jax recreated the Twin Towers with an American Flag 🇺🇸 in the middle to let everyone know we can come back stronger together!
Steele and Brady built the Twin Towers with stem blocks!

In honor of Patriot Day tomorrow, September 11, our Douglas School students and staff are encouraged to wear patriotic clothing, or the colors red, white, and blue to school. Thank you for participating, Tiger family! 🐯🇺🇸


Our students and staff are asked to wear tie-dye, or your favorite Douglas spiritwear, to school tomorrow, September 4th, in support of our beloved supervisor, Mrs. Pam Austin. Her surgery is tomorrow, and she could really use our support. Our families and school community are also encouraged to take part, and to post pictures for Mrs. Pam in the comments below.
